We will analyse the current state and recent history of the digital games market, its business practices and the policy and financial frameworks in which it operates, in the UK and in relevant overseas economies. The principal research questions we want to address are:

  • What are the current barriers to and opportunities for growth in the UK digital games market, and particularly for SMEs in this market?
  • What are the key performance indicators of the digital games industry? Can we develop key measures of societal and scientific impact for digital games?
  • What type of policy framework for digital games companies is in place in the UK and how does this compare with frameworks in countries such as the US, Japan, Canada, Ireland, France and Australia?
